Professional Bio
Amber has been working in the mental health field since 2008. She has a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from University of the Cumberland’s and a Master's degree in Counseling Psychology from Union College of Kentucky. She is a Licensed Counseling Clinical Counselor (LPCC-S) and registered to provide supervision by the Kentucky Board of Professional Counselors. She earned her certification in Eating Disorders from Northern Illinois University in 2017. Amber has training in doctorate level education for Clinical Psychology from Western Kentucky University in the Psy. D. program. She also became credentialed as a Forensic Mental Health Evaluator with the National Board of Forensic Evaluators in 2019. Amber also is credentialed as a National Board of Credential Counselors (NBCC).
She has spent her career working with both children and adults in a variety of treatment settings. Amber is skilled in treating various mental health issues and has maintained most of her career as an addictions specialist. She utilizes her skills in addiction to assist her clients in identifying destructive habits, food preoccupation patterns, and develop body size and shape acceptance. She has a passion for assisting clients in achieving their wellness goals with an emphasis on intuitive eating principles and a Health At Every Size philosophy. Amber provides a safe, caring and comfortable environment to promote healing. Her approach is nonjudgmental and her goal is to help you feel at ease while exploring a new path to wellness.
Amber also has a significant background in working with children and their families. In her previous position as a Social Worker, she often worked with families with a variety of concerns including: substance abuse issues, child maltreatment, child neglect and abuse, domestic violence, parenting skills, court-mandated services, family issues and much more. She has been employed as a therapist for the Children’s Advocacy Center since 2018, helping children and families involved with extensive trauma, PTSD and sexual abuse cases. She is confident in helping both children and their families find unity and a sense of togetherness every family strives to obtain.
Lastly, Amber has extensive work and experience in crisis counseling for suicide prevention and intervention. She previously gained skills working with the Veteran’s Crisis Line fielding calls from Veterans and other members of the community in active crisis. Amber has a unique set of skills in providing suicide and crisis assessments, as well as completing safety plans and communicating emergency resources within the community to assist Veterans and others in crisis.
When she is not working, Amber enjoys spending time with her family, including her young toddler. She enjoys taking her daughter on stroller walks throughout her neighborhood and watching her grown and develop everyday. Amber also enjoys cooking and reading, including listening to audiobooks and podcasts.
